Brenda Halloran was elected as Mayor in 2006 and re-elected in October 2010. She represents the city on Waterloo regional council and a number of boards and committees.
She began her career as a registered nurse and moved from the health-services industry to diverse management positions in the business sector.
Mayor Halloran has received many awards such as the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Award, the Alumni of Distinction Award from Conestoga College and an honorary professorship from the Yunnan Normal University in China.
Mayor Halloran is a member of the International Women's Forum, Zonta International and the Rotary Club of Waterloo. She is passionate about health care, inclusion and affordable housing. Mayor Halloran was the driving force behind an advisory committee dedicated to improving age-friendliness, and Waterloo was named a member of the World Health Organization's Global Network of Age-friendly Cities in 2012.
